Hollowland Book 1 by Amanda Hocking

I am not a zombie fan and I put off reading Amanda Hocking's Hollowland #1 for a long time but when I did start it I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in 2 hours, then started the second one already...lol. 19 year Old, Remy is a survivor of the Zombie Apocalypse encased a fortress where the last survivors are protected by soldiers. While she lives in the young women's wing, her younger brother, Max, is in the medical wing of the facility, under the watchful eye of her rescuer and mentor, Beck. When Zombies attack the facility Max is ushered to safety, and everyone is killed but Remy and her 13 year old friend, Harlow. Now to reunite with her brother, Remy starts out on a cross country journey gathering with her Harlow, Lazlo, the former rock star, Blue, the Canadian doctor and Ripley, the lioness. Together, they face both the good and bad of what the new world has to offer. This is the perfect blend of humor, adventure, love and heroics. I don't know how Amanda Hocking did it but most of the "gross" zombie stuff adds to the story. It is not senseless violence but a reality of the post-apocalyptic zombie world. As we read we are drawn into lives of the characters and the suspense of what will happen to the merry band. I can't wait to see what happens to Remy. 5 out of 5 Nerds.
