THE PHENOMENON

THE PHENOMENON - Psychic, telekinesis, fortune telling, mind reading, astral projection, empathic
Psychics and soothsayers, people with ESP of psychic abilities, and just plain old women's intuition have been with us for centuries. Some of you may even know one or two people who actually have abilities beyond the mundane. But in stories, we love these guys: they are usually the fodder that other fantastic creatures feed on.

PRIZE #1:  eCopy of THE BELLE STALKER
PRIZE #2: eCopy of any paranormal book on Amazon or Barnes & Noble
TIME'S UP AT: 7:00PM

So, here are your questions:

1.  What ability, if any, do you think you may have? How do you know?

2. Have you ever had your palm read, a tarot card reading, or even I-Ching? If not, would you like to? If so, what was it like and did any of it come true?

3. Do you think you've ever read someone's mind, saw the future, or had an overwhelming feeling of Déjà vu
4. Do you believe in astrology? If not, why? If so, why?

  1. I think I'd like to have telekinesis... I'd love to be able to float things over to me, like getting a glass of wine without leaving my chair... ~sigh~ I'm going to have my palm read as research for my next book... it should be fun!

I did have my Tarot read once and have had I-Ching a couple of times. I don't know about astrology but sometimes it's right on!

    So... what about you?

  2. I recently held a conversation on Facebook about animal totems, because I'd heard so many authors say something about theirs. So, she filled me in on what she knew about it. Basically, if you're strongly attracted to a particular animal there are traits that relate to your personality and life. I said cats would be on mine, but she sent the cats profile which mentioned things like magic and confidence and ...
well I didn't think it fit me at all.
So, she suggested in my sleep to 'ask' my subconscious to reveal my animal totems. So I did because I really believe that our dreams and our subconscious minds untangle and unlock problems and challenges in our sleep.
    Anyway, about the animals?
    Nuthin'.
BUT, the next morning came a phone call...
And then a desirable contact was made via Facebook...
And suddenly I was pretty convinced with the cat's mysticism.
    Coincidence?
    Mebbee....
But, all of this stuff can be argued as well timed coincidences versus mysticism. And what is magic anyway, without suspension of belief in reality.
We ARE fiction writers, after all!

  3. Okay, confession time. I read the Tarot and collect sets. I haven't in quite a while but, yes, they can be quite revealing.

I don't follow astrology for the very fact that the heavens changed and the signs are not accurate.

I would love to move things with my mind. And actually have a novel in process about that very gift. I would let it type for me and hopefully, it would spell better than I do.

  4. Hi, Pam! I found my totem at a native American gathering, but I'd love to see something specific on mine. How cool is that? I think our vivid imaginations come from our desire for the fantastic.

LOL, Shanon... I wish my computer would spell better as well.. especially these blog posts!

  5. Hey Minnette, just popping in while dinner simmers,

    So, here are your questions:

    1. What ability, if any, do you think you may have? How do you know?

I wouldn't say that I do have any, but I know I've seen ghosts, and have a bit of a sense of deja vu at times, but I think it's just that I am open to that more than some of my friends.

    2. Have you ever had your palm read, a tarot card reading, or even I-Ching? If not, would you like to? If so, what was it like and did any of it come true?

I have three sets of tarot cards, and I practice with them a lot. It's not exact, it's all about how you perceive the meanings. I also have done my lunar horoscope which is much difference than the solar horoscope. (I'm virgo by solar, and capricorn by lunar) It's more about personality types based on the exact alignment of all the planets at the time of your birth. It's kind of cool, and I love that my mom understands how I like wacky things, and got me the celtic lunar horoscope kit when I was a teen.

    3. Do you think you've ever read someone's mind, saw the future, or had an overwhelming feeling of Déjà vu?

There are times when my friends and I will be talking and we'll say the same thing, or say, "hey, out of my head." because we were thinking what the other said. I'm not so sure about the future, but the past, that's a far weirder experience.

For years I've had this dream. It's always the same, The house, the drive shadowed by trees, the crying woman, the baby, the pond. By the time I was in my early twenties, I was used to it, but growing more disturbed as I started realizing that more and more I was the crying woman in the dream.

One day I was talking to my mom about it, describing the house, right down to the wallpaper. She got on her computer, pulled up information on a historical house near where my grandparents lived, and asked if that was it.

Right down to the wallpaper. Gave me the chills. Especially when my mother told me the house was torn down several years before I was born. I use to walk past the field on my way home from school when we stayed with Grandma and Grandpa. Every part of the dream seemed to have related to the last family that lived there, including the incidents that I saw in the dreams. That house had been empty though since my mother was a little girl.

As for Deja Vu, I do believe we all have it at some point, whether we acknowledge it or not is a different story.

    4. Do you believe in astrology? If not, why? If so, why?

Yes and No. I believe that Astrology is helpful in giving us insight into ourselves, but I don't live for what it says, nor do I think it dictates who and what I can be in this life.

  6. And I'm back again :D;; now with a nap i feel slightly better

    1. What ability, if any, do you think you may have? How do you know?

Telekinesis, because I think it would be cool to move things. Or Pyrokinesis, That might be a little fun, but scary sometimes. I wouldn't want mind reading, because sometimes some others peoples thoughts would be too powerful. Or being an empath same problem, people can have strong emotions and it could overload you.

    2. Have you ever had your palm read, a tarot card reading, or even I-Ching? If not, would you like to? If so, what was it like and did any of it come true?

Nope. I don't know, I'm skeptical of such things.

    3. Do you think you've ever read someone's mind, saw the future, or had an overwhelming feeling of Déjà vu?

Deja vu yes. And its funky feeling when your talking and its like "uhh this already happened" but it just doesn't work till after the fact. This is a good reason I'm glad I'm not a precog, that would drive me nuts.

    4. Do you believe in astrology? If not, why? If so, why?

No, because things haven't added up with it. Therefore I have trouble believing in it. Its little things like that, that make it hard for me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Too cool, Christiana! There have been times in my life where I saw things that happened later, especially when I was young. I think teenagers are more susceptible to those kinds of things.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I used to get deva vu a lot when I was in a haunted house. I'm not sure the correlation is, but it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  9. With things so technologically overwhelming, I'm not surprised we aren't receptive. The phones, tv, computer, etc. occupy our minds. Also, just a thought, what about all the new wavelinks in the air?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I Agree Shanon, I think that might have a lot to do with it as well. Also, I think that When we are younger, we believe in magic. It's as we grow, and certain "facts" in our lives evolve, we become disillusioned with the magic and possibilities. Thank goodness for books and because the wonderful authors out there help keep our imaginations playing.

  11. Good question... I wonder about that sometimes myself.

  12. I'd have the power of visiting and affecting dreams and their outcomes.
    What's a water witch?

  13. Sorry I'm late, gonna answer those questions! lol just a moment!

  14. Well I totally suck! Sorry for missing the last party Minnette :) Got distracted at the grocery store.. its all still on the floor in the kitchen LOL! I went with a Steak and shiitake mushrooms and portabella mushrooms just in case the shiitake ones were bad :P Yum yum! ;)

  15. 1. What ability, if any, do you think you may have? How do you know?

I am able to tell which homes are haunted and which are not. I get a tingly anxious feeling when passing by or entering a haunted house. I have always had the ability.

    2. Have you ever had your palm read, a tarot card reading, or even I-Ching? If not, would you like to? If so, what was it like and did any of it come true?

Never have and yes I do believe in it and would love to try it.

    3. Do you think you've ever read someone's mind, saw the future, or had an overwhelming feeling of Déjà vu?

I have had Deja Vu moments on and off throughout life. Seen things in my dreams that then later came true.

    4. Do you believe in astrology? If not, why? If so, why?

I do not believe in Astrology. I have never had a prediction come true.

  16. Hi, Leanne ~waves~ I know when a house is haunted because I get a headache and feel like I've got clay on my face. Weird huh?

  17. finally back.. so what is the grand prize?! :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. Have to go with TK — I'd love to be able to have things I want come to me without me getting up to grab them. ;)

    As for the questions:

I think I'm lightly sensitive to spirits and entities, but that's it. I know because of things I've seen.

Yes, I had my palm read once, and the reader told me I have the writer's break or whatever it's called. I've also had a tarot card reading at a Bar Mitzvah once, and it told me to go after a guy I had a crush on at the time. Did NOT work out.

I've had déjà vu several times... And usually over random stuff. I think I've been on the same wavelength with my sister, but I don't think it's mind reading. ;)

I'm skeptical of astrology, but I do read it for fun. Everything is so generic when it comes to your daily/weekly forecast... But then there are certain traits which I have that are "common" for Aquarius' and whatever the next symbol is... (I'm Aquarius on the cusp of whatever's next.

  19. I just got home from work, was so scared I had missed it all. Minnette u feel like u have clay in your face? As a child I had panic attacks and would see shadows, my mother would say it was an over-active imagination but even at that age I knew that wasn't the case.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi everyone! Just got back from visiting my favorite kidlits I babysit. :) What did I miss?

  21. I think I shoulda put i have the ability to misinterpret things.. Or I can't read well xD; one of those two..

  22. Hey Pamela, Catching up, I saw that you asked what a water witch is- While I can't say that my description will match everyone else, When I think of Witches, I think of Elements- Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit. Traditionally, depending on which books you've read, witches tend to correlate to One of those elements, sometimes more than one, and rarely to all.

  23. 1. What ability, if any, do you think you may have? How do you know? I think that I have the ability to read minds...I usually end up speaking the thoughts of people before they even say them.

    2. Have you ever had your palm read, a tarot card reading, or even I-Ching? If not, would you like to? If so, what was it like and did any of it come true? I've had my palm read once, and it was a weird experience for me. None of what was said came true...

    3. Do you think you've ever read someone's mind, saw the future, or had an overwhelming feeling of Déjà vu? I've experienced Déjà vu before...I remember going to places I've never been before, but remembering them as if I had previously been there.

    4. Do you believe in astrology? If not, why? If so, why? I believe in astrology..I'm a Leo, and when I look at the characteristics of a Leo, they match me almost perfectly.

  24. 1. My mother likes to call me her Jinx, because I tend to tell her EXACTLY how her relationships will end, and despite everything they ALWAYS end that way! Not to mention I'm good at Jinxing myself, with "What can go wrong, will go wrong" I am always pleasantly surprised when things do not go bad.

    2. I have had my tarrot read, and even though I am not great at it, I can read tarrot cards as well, their super fun!

    3. I have De Ja Vu, ALL THE TIME! I'm particularly good at dreaming small fragments, and not remembering them until it happens.

    4. I do, but to an extent. I like to read my horoscope, but I do not take it too seriously, because they have been wrong before, it's more if a hint or guideline. Still fun to read though!!!

  25. Welcome back to Leanne, Christiana, Yami & Isis and a big welcome to Ivy and cssndrmks! I know exactly what a water witch is because I am one. It's very strange and I found out by doing it the first time. I can take a "y" shaped willow branch or dousing rods and can find water and power cables of all things. I think it's very scientific; I just have a more active magnetic core or something! LOL Anyway, I used to find wells for people down on the south coast when I lived there and it worked everytime... go figure!

    ReplyDelete
  26. 3.) yes I have dreamt the future at least once:)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Minnette, I didn't know that's what you call it. I used to do that all the time when I was young. Used to freak out people. Dousing is used all the time. The precursor to Miss Utility. lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hmm my power if I had one...empath - it's a stretch, but hey. I seem to know when people are down, happy and so on. I know not much of one. I also tend to read a few of my friends minds too. I have never had a reading done. I think I would like to, but of course, I'm nervous about it. I'm not much into astrology, but I do love to read them though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow Minnette - you really ARE Madame Mims! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  30. :) No problem Pamela, and As Minnette just pointed out, there are multiple explanations, I had never heard of Dousing referred to that way. Learn something new every day!

  31. Toni I think empath is my ability too. I can pick up peoples' moods, even through their typed words on the computer. But maybe that's just paying attention.
Anyway, empathic people are more open to receiving spirits and spiritual guidance, and I've always had ... a companion spirit, I guess you'd call her. And I can sense and see spirits in places.
Somewhere I heard/read that time is simply like the layers of curtains, like what you see on stages. And that when we pass from this life and world, it's just the lifting of one of the curtain layers.
    Just a thought.

  32. I haven't done it in a long time (not much of a need for a douser in the city). But I also think that's why I put out street lamps from time to time. That's about as "psychic" as I am, but it's fun to dream! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I lived in Va and went to the Edgar Cayce Foundation and took all the tests. According to them, I'm deader than a doorknob....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yep, I'm empathic as well... It's interesting but almost every author I've met has empathic abilities to almost the person. I think that's some kind of requirement! LOL The only problem I have with it is I can't be in crowded places without getting severely stressed. I think I'm just feeling to much too quickly. When I was young it was really bad, but I think I've learned to control it over the years. Am I the only one?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I forgot about empathy. HUGE experience in that last year when I was in Israel... There are certain places there that I CAN NOT go back to because it was so extreme. I could feel the pain and bloodshed in the region from its past. It got to the point that I went super pale and my group leader thought I was sick.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow, Isis... a friend of mine experienced the exact same thing when she went there. I think that is one place on earth full of energies of all kinds...
