Ready Or Not Moira Dunne is a witch--the quantum physics kind. Time and space are her playthings. Which might explain why her one-night stand from a hundred years ago has turned up to "claim" her--and request her family's assistance with the war he's brewing. But the more she learns about Connlan Kayrs, the more she comes to think this is normal behavior for him. . . There's Nowhere To Hide When Conn and Moira tumbled on the moonlit grass, Conn hadn't meant to mark her as his mate for all time. She was only twenty! But it wasn't easy to wait for her. It was even harder to forget her. So when he finally returns for his wicked-hot witch, he's ready to let the sparks flying. Even if he burns up in flames. . .
Let me start by saying this is the first book I’ve ever read by Rebecca Zanetti, though I believe this is book number 3 in the series.
I’ll admit in the first third of this book, I was a little bit lost because I hadn’t read any of the previous books, but that’s my fault and not the authors. There’s a lot of info to take in about this paranormal world Rebecca has created. If this is your first book and you’re a bit lost, don’t give up because it gets really good. In this book we've got Conn and Moira as our main characters.
Moira is a feisty redheaded witch who’s the Seventh (seventh daughter of a seventh witch). Because of that, she’s got a lot of power, more than a regular witch and she will one day rule the Council of the Coven Nine because of that power. In a night of passion, one hundred years ago, Moira shares an electric night with Conn. During sex Conn ends up marking her with the mating mark, not on purpose but just the way things work. Considering how powerful Moira is meant to be, her family is more than a little bit upset and her dad wants Conn’s head on a nice spike, adorning the front yard. Conn signs a treaty with her family, promising to stay away from her for a century, so that she can train to be the Seventh. It also takes a century for a witch to come into her power and learn how to use that power.
Conn stayed away from her for the full century and then flies to Ireland because he wants to take her home with him now. Moira doesn’t want to leave and Conn is suspicious that there is more things going on than Moira is telling. In the beginning, when Moria can’t get Conn to leave, she throws a plasma ball at him. This plasma ball is formed by her and her magic and can only be controlled by her since she’s the one who created it. Conn catches this plasma ball in the air and while Moira gapes at him, he throws it back at her. It seems that the mating mark did more than give them matching tattoos. The mark also gives them each other’s abilities. Conn can now work magic and Moira is adapt at hand to hand combat, knives, guns, etc. just like Conn is.
There are several other factions going on in this book. We’ve got witches, vampires, demons, shifters and Kurjans (<~~~pasty-white bloodsucking monsters). Besides all the factions, there are a lot of things happening and it’s a pretty fast paced book. We've got things like the Virus-27, created by the Kurjans to attack vampire mates and change them back to human form. Council members are getting sucked into violent traveling portals and no one knows how these portals are even possible.
Rebecca takes you on an action-packed journey, that will leave your head spinning and wondering how you could have been so oblivious to what’s really going on. When you find out about a certain murder in this book, you’ll be just as shocked as I was. Hunted is a scrumptious paranormal fantasy that will keep you up all night.
