Book Giveaway & Toni's Review of Fever by Joan Swan ***4.5 Stars***

When Dr. Alyssa Foster is taken hostage by a prison inmate, she knows she's in deep trouble. Not just because Teague Creek is desperate for freedom, but because the moment his fingers brush against her skin, Alyssa feels a razor-sharp pang of need...

A man with a life sentence has nothing to lose. At least Teague doesn't, until his escape plan develops a fatal flaw: Alyssa. On the run from both the law and deadly undercover operatives, he can only give her lies, but every heated kiss tells him the fire between them could be just as devastating as the flames that changed him forever...

I’m going to start this review a bit differently. A lot of people don’t give this book a chance because of racial slurs and downright ugly language. Yes, this book has those factors in it, but it is not the book. The individual who talks like that doesn’t last long. This is NOT his story. It’s an unpleasant reality that there are people out there that still think and talk like this, but like I said…It is a reality. I have to give kudos to the author for not sugar coating the truth no matter how objectionable it is.

Teague had it all once upon a time. A loving wife, a beautiful child and a career he enjoyed immensely. One tragic event changed his life forever, unbeknown to him. From that moment on, his life took a downhill plummet. He has lost nearly everything and now he has nothing left to lose. Determined to take back the one thing that is most precious in his life; he takes a chance and breaks out of prison. Now all he has to do is reach his final goal and to hell with everyone in his way.

Dr. Alyssa Foster is having a really tough day. Exhausted and beat, she has no idea she just entered a storm. Now she is being held captive by two men; one who does nothing but hate her for living and the other that confuses her all the way down to her toes. No matter what, she must survive. She has too much to live for and she has worked too hard to let these men ruin her life.

Things don’t look promising for these escapees. If they are not fighting among themselves, they have gangs, the police and an unknown entity after them. They are running out of time and things are not looking better but worse.

This is one high octane ride! Fever is sexy, dark, mysterious and kick-butt. I loved the chemistry between Teague and Alyssa. She is one smart cookie and she doesn’t take any crap. Their adventure is definitely a roller coaster ride from start to finish.

In her blurb about herself, Ms. Swan mentions that she writes romance suspense with a paranormal twist. I would agree. While this story is NOT a paranormal romance, it does have a different element/feel to it. I would have to compare it to Spiderman, if you will. Parker got bit by the radioactive spider and now he has these amazing abilities. I know it’s kind of geekish of me to compare it like that, but that is the best comparison that I could come up with. So there is no supernatural in this book, just the unnatural. This is romance with a little extra edge. It works - trust me!

Heck, if you don’t pick up the book for the cover alone, I would have to question your sanity, just kidding. Fever really is a great read. Full of suspense and action, but tender loving moments that steamed up my glasses. If Ms. Swan is making this a series, I’m on board and will be in line for the next installment. I loved her voice and she knows how to write hot sexy romance with clever dialog. These are all bonuses in my view. Great job and well done!!

Thanks for reading!! - Toni

  5. My favorite superhero is Thor. I love mythology so this year my class read some of the Norse myths. Chris Hemsworth portrays Thor in the movie and what eye candy he is. I'm not sure what kind of ability I would like to have maybe telekinesis, the ability to move things with my mind.

  6. My favorite super hero would be the man of steel himself, Superman! On top of all the cool abilities, he's got broad shoulders with his rockin body. Yeah, Superman would do it for me ;)

  7. I don't know if it counts as a super hero, but the only one I can really get into is X-MEN. Of them I'd have to say, while they're all pretty amazing, I would have to choose Kitty Pryde, who may or may not have been an original cast member, but she walks through walls, and that is probably the coolest thing I can think of. IF I had super powers though, I think I would want to be able to turn into a bird...does that count? I wanna be able to fly, but not like supeman. I'd go for Angel (also from X-men) but the wings don't hide, and I wouldn't wanna stand out.

  8. Favorite action hero...Blade, he's hawt and bad-ass!!! If I have a secret ability it would be the ability to time travel! Wow..who wouldn't want to be able to see and experience some of the greatest things that have happened in the past or will happen in the future??!!! I think being aboard the Titanic would be awesome, but how could you do that and not try and alter what's about to happen? Hmmm..perplexing!!!!
    Thanks for the awesome giveaway!!!!

  10. My favorite superhero would have to be Batman, because he's most realistic. ANYONE could turn into Batman with enough money! P.S. Val Kilmer,George Clooney, CHRISTIAN BALE ... need I say more? ;)

As for a super power, I think that I'd like to have super speed (like The Flash), that way I could get everything I need to do done quickly, and would have more time for reading.

  13. Invisibility. I would want the superpower of invisibility. Go anywhere and do anything. I could attend events and fly anywhere because no one could see me to stop me. I wouldn't have to worry about how i looked or what I wore. The benefits of being invisible would be endless.

  14. Good question! My favourite action/super hero would have to be Wolverine of X-Men. He has a very tough and uncaring exterior but in the end, he always fights for the good. Plus the claws--RAWR! :P As for a super power I'd have to say the coolest one that I'd want would also likely drive me insane. It's essentially the power to alter reality using your imagination. There's a character in X-Men called Proteus who has this ability and he's pretty well crazy from it. But still. It'd be kinda neat to be able to change the world with a thought. Great power, great responsibility and all that...

Hmmmm ok my favorite super hero would have to be The crow even though he is technically a vigilantly but he is awesome!! and if i had to have one secret power it would be a toss up between time travel and mind reading with time travel i can always go back and put it right and with mind reading i could stop it (what ever it is) before it happens.

  16. My favorite superhero is Wolverine!! I love that he is all alpha male and has the tough exterior but once you look past that then you realize that he is a caring and loyal man that you will want in your corner fighting for you. If I could have a secret ability then I would want to be able to take anyone's pain from them and heal them! I can't stand to see anyone in pain or hurting.
    Thanks for the giveaway!!

  17. I'd have to say The Invisible woman in the fantastic four. She can of course turn invisible but also can put up a force field to prevent people from getting hurt from things such as explosions and such.

  18. Who is your favorite super/action hero and WHY? That would have to be The Batman for me. Just love the idea of the Dark Knight flying to the rescue and not taking any s**t from anyone, and full discloser...love a man who is built and wears all black leather/rubber to show off a fine bod!! :)
If you could have a secret ability, what would it be and WHY? I would love to turn to a mist or smoke to be able to get into or out of anything. Just imagine the possibilities!!

  19. I think I would like to have teleportation as my secret ability. Traveling from place to place takes so much time and I have much better things to do than sit in a car or plane. I would have to be able to take people with me though, by holding hands or something. You know what would be really cool though, is if I could put myself into a character of a book. Like literally take the place of the heroine or something. Actually live the book, at least as long as I wanted to. I'd have to be aware enough that I wasn't in the book to be able to get myself out again.

  20. If I could have any ability I think I would choose super-speed because think of how much I could get done in a day if I could move that fast!! I wouldn't have to sit in traffic because I would be faster than the cars!

  21. If I could have an ability I would choose to be able to Heal. So many in my family have died from illnesses too young and now I have been diagnosed with an uncurable illness and I just wish I could be healed and that I could heal others. If I could be any action hero I would be She-Ra I use to watch her cartoons when I was younger and I feel like she was one of the strongest women out there.

  24. Who is your favorite super/action hero and WHY? Indiana Jones b/c he is absolutely adorable, loves history, adventure, (I would love to be one of the ladies he has his way with), works hard to get the prize to a museum where it belongs!! AND, he has a whip :D

If you could have a secret ability, what would it be and WHY? to fly... I have had this fascination since I can remember. I learned how to fly a twin engine in high school and it's just the biggest adrenaline rush!

  25. A superhero? I would say Superman because he can fly and has a nerdy side.

I would love to be able to stop time - not necessarily turn back time - but stop it so I could get more done in a day: including reading more!

    Thanks for featuring the book.

  26. I would like to bend matter to my will. Sick of waiting in traffic? Why not be able to shove other cars aside. Or better yet, park your car on the side of the road and bend the air around you so you can use it to take flight. Want to go on a beach vacation on the other side of the planet? A precision tidal wave that would push your boat there would be nice. Accidentally knock your boat over under said tidal wave? A nice breathable air pocket would come in handy ...

  29. Secret ability I would like would have to be snapping my fingers and things just happen like I want them to. I'm not really sure which superhero/action hero would be my favorite. They all have pros and cons. Thanks! nerdsrgood@msn.com
