AUTHOR INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY - Shanon Grey

Friday The Th Picture Cards

Shanon Grey is here to tell us a little about herself and her two great books.  Relax, read up and then enter to win for your chance to own her book The Shoppe of Spells.

Welcome, can you tell us a little about yourself how long you've been writing?

Thank you so much for having me. Time is getting closer for my second novel, Meadow’s Keep, to come out and I am getting excited. Of course, The Gatekeeper Series books are stand-alone stories, but it’s always fun to start at the beginning and the beginning for my series and for me is The Shoppe of Spells. Although I’ve been in the writing and editing business most of my life, The Shoppe of Spells is my debut novel. I can tell you, writing fiction is very different from technical writing and so much more fun. My characters just seem to take control and I find myself going places I never dreamed.

Other than writing, what are some of your passions in life?

Life is my passion. I love living. Right now, times are tough for many people, my family included. We’ve been struggling just to make ends meet like everyone else and because of that, I’ve had a chance to really observe a lot of people. I am amazed by the kindness and generosity that come from some of the very people that are struggling the most. Don’t get me wrong, there are some real butts out there. But, for the most part, people are incredible. Plus, I have gotten some wonderful ideas for characters. I suppose the saying is true:  “Be careful. You could end up as a character in my novels.”

What profession do you think you would hate?

I think I would hate being a stockbroker on the floor at the Wall Street Exchange, or whatever it’s called. I’ve heard the stress is killer—and for what—pork bellies or some other animal part. Plus, you are dealing with people’s dreams and life savings and playing a game. I don’t think I would be very good at that. Not that I understand it. I’ve never played the market. But, when my father-in-law passed away, I helped with the estate. It turned out that the man he’d trusted for years and years, his broker, had been making a fortune off him while losing his money. I was glad Dad wasn’t around to see that. I think he really believed he was a friend. I don’t think I have the “dispassion” to gamble with other people’s money. Plus, I don’t think fast enough.

How do you balance between your personal life and your writing?

What balance? I drive people crazy writing all the time and at all hours. I eat it, dream it, shower it, live it. I break into a conversation about it at any given moment. I can wonder off, worrying out a plot or scene. My wonderful family makes sure I eat and tries to distract me. It doesn’t work. Then, when I’m done, I nag them to read it and dare them to hate it. Not really. But I have been known to cry.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

You mean, “What books aren’t on your nightstand?” My nightstand is a dresser/desk that pulls down. It stays that way because it’s loaded with books—paranormal, historical, mystery, thriller—you name it, and it’s probably there. I’ll unload it when I’ve read about three quarters of them and, within days, I have it loaded back up. I can’t stand the idea of not having books nearby to read. I don’t think I could go to sleep without reading for a bit. I know I use it to get my mind off what I’m working on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I do have a Nook and yet, books—with the feel and smell of paper—find their way to my nightstand. My husband just shakes his head and waits for the poor thing to tip over. It hasn’t, yet.

Can you share anything your readers would be surprised to know about you?

Yes. I am a very superstitious person. I wish on white horses, throw salt over my shoulder, wish on shooting stars, say “Jinx, you owe me a coke,” or “bread and butter.” I believe lady bugs are good luck, as are cardinals. I love talismans. I try not to say or think ugly things, lest they come true (I don’t always succeed, at least with the thinking part). And, I do believe there’s a reason for everything.

I want to thank you for letting me ramble. And for letting me share my excitement about my books. I want readers to fall in love with the quaint little town of Ruthorford, Georgia and all of its very special “descendants.” I have had some wonderful compliments and encouragements from readers and hope to continue to provide stories that people will want to keep in their libraries, to pass along. There are more stories on the horizon, so stay tuned.

Shanon Grey weaves romance and suspense with threads of the paranormal. THE SHOPPE OF SPELLS is the first in her series, THE GATEKEEPERS, about the quaint town of Ruthorford, Georgia and its very special inhabitants. PENNYROYAL CHRISTMAS ~A Ruthorford Holiday Story~ is out in e-format as well. MEADOW’S KEEP is due to be released this summer. Under contract with Crossroads Publishing House, her books are available in e-format and print at most booksellers.

Shanon spent her life on coasts, both the beautiful Atlantic and the balmy Gulf. Hurricane Katrina taught her the fragility of life and the strength of friendship, family, and starting over.

She just found out that her son salvaged notes and pages of her original novel, Capricorn’s Child, which she thought had been destroyed with everything else. (Ironically, a neighbor found her marriage certificate in a tree.) She plans to resurrect her original novel one day.

She currently lives in Coweta County, Georgia, trading the familiarity of the coast for the lush beauty and wonder of the mountains, where her husband fulfilled her lifelong dream—to live in a cottage in the woods, where inspiration abounds.

The Gatekeeper Series

When is a whole more than the sum of its parts?

When it has ties to the quaint little town of Ruthorford, GA, as Morgan Briscoe discovers when a cryptic message threatens to change her life forever. Morgan’s relatively normal life is turned on its ear when she learns not only that she is adopted, but her birth parents are dead and she now holds half-interest in a business with their ward, Dorian Drake.

Dorian is running The Shoppe of Spells and despite his riveting good looks, he can barely conceal his hostility toward his new partner.

Morgan discovers that she is more than she seems and together she and Dorian have the ability to control a portal to another dimension. Unable to control their growing attraction, Morgan and Dorian dance around their desires and her burgeoning abilities, until danger forces them to face their destiny.

Jasmine Monroe once felt like damaged goods. But, not anymore. Her latent abilities, although appearing too late to save her from a brutal attack, will keep her safe from anyone ever hurting her again. She’s made sure of that. Secure in that fact, she’s moved on. Until she meets her first love’s doppelganger.

Eryk Vreeland, a misfit and embarrassment to his upper-class/upper-crust family, is a magician. His shows are renowned, his contributions to charity astronomical, his illusions precise. Except, not everything is an illusion. Sometimes there is real magic.

Jasmine stumbles upon a secret that will change Eryk’s life forever, and in doing so, she must face her own destiny as well. When Jasmine and Eryk are forced together to rescue and protect a young woman, each must overcome the barrier that protects, yet hinders any personal attachments. The safeguards must come down to combine their abilities and, when that happens, their attraction strengthens—beyond their control—until they can barely tell where one person stops and the other begins.

Can their hearts take the toll? Will they surrender to one another or risk a disaster to stay apart?
