DANI HARPER - Guest Post and Giveaway!!

Shapeshifters, Werewolves and Changelings, oh my!

My new PNR series is about the Macleod family and their friends.  Long-lived and able to become wolves at will, they call themselves Changelings.  Almost two centuries ago, they were forced to flee the wolf exterminations in Scotland and start a new life in the wilderness of northern Canada.

Today, that wilderness has been largely settled, and an entire community has sprung up around the Changelings.  The Macleods and their pack live as humans most of the time, hiding in plain sight.  But there’s just enough unspoiled forest left for them to joyfully run as wolves whenever they please.  They seem to have the best of both worlds – but there are still dangers lurking for their kind.  And love, when it arrives, brings dangers and complications of its own.

The two highest laws in the Changeling world are never harm a human and never turn a human against their will.  The wolf within, however, has its own primal rules. If a Changeling’s life is in danger, the wolf will emerge to defend it. It will also rise, unbidden, to defend a mate at all costs. And Changelings mate for life.

ChangelingMoon and Changeling Dream came out in May and June of 2011 and the reviews have been wonderful.  Changeling Dawn was just released.  Again, the reviews have been great.  I’m very excited about this third book – I feel that it’s the best yet and I’m so glad I can finally share it with my readers!

Check out Chelsea's Reviews.

BLURB & EXCERPT FROM CHANGELING DAWN:

Kenzie Macleod has spent her whole life hiding what she is, and she’s not about to open up to any man, even one as powerfully attractive as wildlife expert Josh Talarkoteen. But legend says that a Changeling cannot escape the call of her true mate, even in the wilderness of backcountry Alaska.

An isolated archeological site, a terrified Changeling cub, a secretive research center -- as Kenzie and Josh face the ultimate betrayal, his obsidian eyes promise untold pleasure and hint at dark secrets of his own.

“Wait a minute, you’re Canadian?” she asked.

“It’s a long story. I’ll tell you about it when we go out for dinner. Would you prefer bowling or dancing afterwards?” It was satisfying to see her control wobble as she steered the truck to the shoulder.

“Jeez, do you feel sorry for me or something? I’m not going out with you, no matter what country you’re from.”

“Naw-aw, I made the offer before I heard how concerned your family was, so it’s hardly a pity date. How about giving me your phone number?”

“No,” she said and brought the truck to a jerky stop.

He shrugged, and produced a dog-eared business card with the Fish and Game logo from his shirt pocket. “I’ll give you mine then. If you have any trouble with bears, give me a call. There’s a lot of big griz up there, all gathered to catch salmon at this time of year, and they can be a problem when you’re camping.” He waited a second, then added. “It’s my job.”

He didn’t think she’d take it, but at last she plucked the card from his fingers and stuffed it in her own shirt pocket – which he couldn’t help but notice was tantalizing rounded and the button had to be directly over her…

“Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind,” she said without conviction. Damned if her bottom lip didn’t look just a little bit sulky too. He was torn between wanting to kiss it and wanting to laugh. Since either choice would likely be harmful to his health, however, he opted to get out of the truck. “Wait.” He leaned back in the window. “Be sure to leave the Richardson Highway or you’ll end up in Fairbanks. Take the Tok Cutoff and you’ll come right to Chistochina.”

She saluted him and Josh walked back to get his tire. He thumped on the canopy after he put the tailgate back up and watched the pickup drive away until he couldn’t see it anymore. It was the fourth of July today and he could swear that there were fireworks going off in his bloodstream, thanks to Kenzie Macleod. And her initial outburst had been downright endearing rather than irritating. Why would that be? And why would the woman who just turned him down be miles more attractive to him than that cute redheaded waitress at The Caribou? Could it be those big gray eyes that arrested him? Or maybe it was her long, long legs.

Or maybe it was the bright blue aura that surrounded her. She probably didn’t know she even had it, never mind that he could see it. And Josh would bet money that she had no idea what it had revealed to him.

Toni's Review of Austentatious by Alyssa Goodnight ***4.5 Stars***

In this quirky, sexy novel set against the lively, music-filled backdrop of Austin, Texas, a young woman learns that romance can wreak havoc with even the best laid plans. . .

It started innocently enough. While browsing in one of Austin's funky little shops, Nicola James is intrigued by a blank vintage journal she finds hidden among a set of Jane Austen novels. Even though Nic is a straight-laced engineer, she's still a sucker for anything Austen-esque. But her enthusiasm quickly turns to disbelief once she starts writing in the journal--because somehow, it's writing her back. . .

Miss Nicola James will be sensible and indulge in a little romance. Those twelve tiny words hit Nic like a thunderbolt, as if her diary was channeling Austen herself! Itching for a bit of excitement, Nic decides to follow her "Fairy Jane's" advice. The result: a red-hot romance with a sexy Scottish musician who charms his way into Nic's heart in about five seconds flat.

Sean MacInnes is warm, funny, and happens to think Nic is the most desirable woman he's ever met. But a guy like Sean doesn't exactly fit into her Life Plan. With no one but Fairy Jane to guide her, Nic must choose between the life she thought she wanted--and the kind of happy ending she never saw coming. . ..

****************
I will have to say that Austentatious absolutely captured my heart and wouldn’t let go and I couldn’t be happier!

Nicola James is a woman with a plan.  This plan is well laid out and pretty much written in stone.  She has her life mapped out and by golly she is going to make it happen.  All that changed the moment she purchased a vintage journal for her cousin.  When a cup of chai tea latte met the journal, all things changed.  With the gift ruined and now owned by Nicola by default, she can’t help but be drawn to it.  She writes one entry and all her well laid out plans are changing and she can’t seem to stop it.

Toni's Review of To Walk the Night by E.S. Moore ***4 Stars***

Author:  E.S. Moore
Length:  321 Pages
Publisher:  Kensington Books
Date Published:  January 3, 2012
Rating:  4 Stars
Content:  Urban Fantasy, Adult Content, Violence, Vampires, Shape Shifters, Demons, Magic

Even a vampire has to face her inner demons…

Kat Redding is the very thing she hunts: a vampire, thirsting for blood, capable of killing any creature unlucky enough to get in her path. The difference is, Kat kills her own kind in order to protect human Purebloods. She’s good at what she does. Good enough to earn the nickname Lady Death—and the enmity of every bloodthirsty being around. But now a vampire Count is intent on merging his House with a werewolf cult to create a force of terrifying power.

Kat can’t allow that to happen. Even if it means taking on a den of weres and a vampire more ruthless than any she’s encountered before. She has the weapons, the skill, and a few allies. But that may not be enough to eliminate the Count before her own dark nature rises to the surface—and costs her whatever is left of her humanity…

I can see the future and it says that this new series will be a hit!

OK, I really can’t see the future, but I sure do have high hopes for this great new series!  Pulse pounding and new, To Walk the Night is action packed!  I will say though the foundation work was a bit slow, but once that was built and the action started - POW - what a kicker.  Now Mr. Moore can hit the ground running, propelling us into a unique universe where the outlook might be dismal, but there is still hope for the future.

Kat Redding was born after the Uprising; when the vampires and werewolves rose up against humans to take over the night.  Since then the monsters of legends rule the night while the purebloods, humans that have not been tainted, live in the day.

Kat and her brother Thomas once fought against the stuff of nightmares until they became tainted.  Now she fights her own kind to protect the purebloods, even while the darkest engulfs her.

This story had a “Blade” feeling to it.  I am so used to romance paranormal books, To Walk the Night, was a refreshing change.  While this series may lack romance, the action more then makes of for it.  Both guys and gals are going to enjoy Kat and her kick-butt ways.  She is a no nonsense girl and the vampires and werewolves better watch out.

E.S. Moore has envisioned a new take on supernaturals that is invigorating.  He has intertwining new ideas about vampires and werewolves, while still holding fast to some the old standards.  The possibility of adventures, battles and action seems endless and I’m looking forward to this journey.  I am on the edge of my seat waiting for to the next installment, Tainted Night, Tainted Blood, coming out in July.  Keep them coming E.S, because this fan can’t wait for more!

~* 5 Stars for The Shoppe of Spells by Shanon Grey *~

The Shoppe of Spells by Shanon Grey (<~~~Amazon)

I started this book out late last night and I gave up on my cleaning, so that I could devote all hours of the morning to this book.

Let me just say, I fell in love with not only all the characters in this book, but I also found a place in my heart for Ruthorford, Georgia as well.

I read a lot of paranormal books, sometimes a book a day. Do you know how hard it is to come up with a paranormal book that is unique and stands out? Because I read so much sometimes the books and authors blur together because either the stories are similar or the types of characters are similar (all the vamps being the same, or the creatures being the same etc). That was not the case for me with The Shoppe of Spells.

You'll spend most of this book asking yourself questions like "What is Morgan? What is Dorian? What is up with Ruthorford and the towns people?"

Morgan is an extremely fresh heroine with her compassion and love and finding out who she really is for the first time in her life.

There are not a ton of Indie authors out there who can compete with some of the New York Times authors, but Shanon Grey is definitely an author that I can see being on the NYT's best-sellers list.

If you want a refreshing change from the normal paranormal, I encourage you to pick up this book and let it take you away to the mysterious town of Ruthorford, in a story filled with mystery, magic, and love.

~* 4 of 5 Stars for Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, Book 1) by Nalini Singh *~

This book is one of the first books I've read by author Nalini Singh. I just got it and decided to give it a try because I liked the title and I thought I might like it better than the Psy series she has. I'm so glad I picked this book up.

The main heroine is a character by the name of Elena Deveraux who is a born hunter. This basically means she was born this way and this way meaning she has extremely sensitive nature to smells, specifically vampires. Elena works for the Guild as a Hunter who tracks down vampires. In this story there is an interesting twist... she tracks down these Vampires for ANGELS, specifically the angels who "made" the vampire.

Basically, humans want to be immortal, they approach the Angels and petition them to become a vampire. If they are chosen to be a vampire they have to swear a blood oath to basically do whatever the Angel wants for the next 100 years... think of it as trading your first 100 years of immortality to be a slave to the Angel who made you.

Elena who is a hunter, tracks down these vampires who have basically "ran" away from their angel because they don't want to do 100 years of service so they try to run away. Elena catches them, sends them back and gets paid good money to do it.

Elena comes to the attention of Raphael who is an Archangel of New York and an extremely dangerous predator. See, in this series angels are not good and maybe not evil either... they have lived for so long (Eons) that some of them have lost their humanity because they've seen so much bloodshed in their life. Raphael meets with Elena, gives her a test and hires her on the spot to track down a Rogue Archangel. She tries to tell him that she can't track angels... only Vampires but Raphael persists so Elena decides to do the case.

Raphael is an agonizingly, beautiful, scary, tempermental Archangel. Elena is a very outspoken person who does not let anything intimidate her. Raphael tries from the very beginning and even though Elena is scared she refuses to grovel and while it irritates Raphael to no end he is also interested in her because he feels intrigue when he's around her and for an Immortal that is priceless.

In this story you meet many different angels, vampires, humans who live in this interesting place that's basically ruled by Angels. I really enjoyed Elena's hunt for the Rogue Angel Uram and her seduction that Raphael performs.

There are enough twists and turns in this book and you don't find out a LOT of information until the very end. The end will leave you waiting to grab the next book as soon as you can. Really good first book in a series and I really like the authors imagination where she creates a world of Vampires who are made by Angels, who aren't really sweet and angelic but walking a fine razor line. If you try it out feel free to let me know what you think!

Toni's Review of Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead ***5 Stars***

#1 New York Times bestselling author Richelle Mead returns to the Otherworld, a mystic land inextricably linked to our own--and balanced precariously on one woman's desperate courage...

Shaman-for-hire Eugenie Markham strives to keep the mortal realm safe from trespassing entities. But as the Thorn Land's prophecy-haunted queen, there's no refuge for her and her soon-to-be-born-children when a mysterious blight begins to devastate the Otherworld...

The spell-driven source of the blight isn't the only challenge to Eugenie's instincts. Fairy king Dorian is sacrificing everything to help, but Eugenie can't trust the synergy drawing them back together. The uneasy truce between her and her shape shifter ex-lover Kiyo is endangered by secrets he can't--or won't--reveal. And as a formidable force rises to also threaten the human world, Eugenie must use her own cursed fate as a weapon--and risk the ultimate sacrifice...

********************

It’s been 12 hours since I finished this book and I’m still sitting here bewildered, enchanted and pleased. I always knew Ms. Mead was a great writer, but I do have to say I think she has undone herself this time. I have been left oddly satisfied with the ending, yet I am disappointed that there are still mind boggling issues left unanswered. In the scheme of things I can also see why those are left unanswered. I am oddly mystified.

Dark Swan is an action series revolving around fey and the problems with prophesy. It also covers a wide range of thought provoking issues. In the four books we have had kidnappings, rape, murder, unplanned pregnancy and even abortion, just to name a few. The subject matters are handled extremely well and Ms. Mead doesn’t back off and sugarcoat the issues. She tackles them head-on, not caring about the backlash. By the end of Shadow Heir, she does it yet again and the results are brilliant. This is not a standalone novel. Please enjoy this series as a whole.

The Iron Crowned ended with a shocking revelation. The hate and dismay for Kiyo is astounding. One of the biggest comments I have noticed that he needs to die a painful death and how in the world can Eugenie even think of a truce with him. I am going to say though I don’t like the idea; the reasoning behind the truce is understandable and tolerable. This whole book is about of compromise and understanding for me. If you are expecting a tale of butterflies, glitter and the story all wrapped up and closed with pretty bows, then you need to not read this book. Ms. Mead has written a thought provoking, deep tale of sacrifice, the choices that mold us and the high price we must pay sometimes for the ones we love.

The reason this novel gets a 5 star review from me is because of the devastating plot and complexity of its execution. I could have also easily given this book a 2 star rating. Just because it doesn’t end the way I think it should doesn’t take away from the brilliant storytelling. I will be captured and thinking of this story for a long time. Some people will be angry and disappointed and some will be thrilled and excited. This book will not please everyone. The only person who could possibly have seen the outcome of this ending is Ms. Mead and the fallout will be diverse.

I have so many assorted feelings about this novel that I’m still reeling. The last chapter had me gasping and heartbroken. I am left with the feeling of bittersweet wonder by the love and devotion. I am awe struck by the sacrifice of true love and saddened by the choice. I can honestly say that I have never finished a book that has left me with the feeling that I am being pulled in so many different directions; feelings of love and hate, wanting and fulfillment and even anger and happiness. I just feel WOW at the conclusion of Shadow Heir.

Congratulations Ms. Mead on a brilliant conclusion to an amazing series! You have left me wanting more, but yet sated at the same time. You have answered many of the questions, but I would still love a tale of the outcome of the decisions that were made. Please take pity on this devoted fan.

Toni's Review of The Hunter by Theresa Meyers ***3.5 Stars***

They're the Chosen—Winchester, Remington and Colt—brothers trained to hunt down supernatural beings using the latest steam-powered gadgetry. It's a hard legacy to shoulder, and it's about to get a lot more dangerous. . .

A Devil Of A Job

Colt Jackson has gotten his name on many a wanted poster with success in the family business: hunting supernaturals across the frontier. Lately, though, there's a sulfur stink in the wind and the Darkin population is exploding. A rift in the worlds is appearing. To close it, Colt will have to do the unthinkable and work with a demon to pass arcane boundaries no human alone can cross.

Except when he summons his demon, he doesn't get some horned monstrosity: he gets a curvy redheaded succubus named Lilly, who's willing to make a bargain to become human again. He also gets Lilly's secret expertise on the machinations on the dark side of the rift. And her charm and cleverness help to get them out of what his silver-loaded pistol and mechanical horse can't. Of course, when all hell breaks loose, he might have to sacrifice his soul. But what's adventure without a little risk?

********************

The Hunter has nonstop action with a bit of sexual tension thrown in.

For the last ten years, Colt Jackson has known about the supernatural world. Trained by his father to fight the Darkin, he is a man with a mission, to stop supernatural’s at all cost. To seal off the gate to hell, he must now rely on a being he is sworn to destroy. He needs the help of a demon to find his father’s portion of the Book of Legend.

Lilly was born a human. She made a pact with a demon lord to protect her sister and has been living as a succubus for the last twenty-five years. During this time she has studied the Chosen, three brother’s prophesized to open the Gates of Nyx. Now her master wants her to seduce Colt for his soul and the book, but she needs Colt for something else…her freedom.

Right from the beginning the chemistry is hot and it’s not just because Lilly is a succubus. Even she feels the connection and is hard pressed to fight it. Colt is leery of course. He has a job to do and in no way can he ever trust a demon. Slowly they learn to trust each other, but with all the forces of evil against them they have to work extra hard to complete their task. Hers is to become human again and his is to find his section of the book.

The action is so well detailed you almost feel like you are there. The world Ms. Meyers has created is fascinating and beautifully described. She really has a knack for pulling you into an action sequence. She writes fast paced and heart pounding scenes with ease. I also enjoyed the way she built the sexual tension between Colt and Lilly. The anticipation was almost as good as the actual event.

This is a smart beginning to what looks to be a thrilling and exciting trilogy. While this is my first steampunk novel that I have read, and I’m not too sure if it is a genre I’ll enjoy, but I do believe that I will be reading this entire trilogy. Ms. Meyers has captured me with spunky characters, fascinating gadgets and an intriguing plot. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, The Slayer, scheduled to be released April 2012.

Toni's Review of Spirit of the Wolf By Vonna Harper ***3.5 Stars***

Passionate

A cattle rancher with a past he'd rather forget, Matt prefers to be alone. But that all changes the night he meets Cat. Her eyes, her lips, her body—he wants her. He needs her. . .

Primal

Unable to resist the attraction he feels for Cat, Matt takes her with a primitive passion he's never felt before. The sex is intense and wildly erotic, yet still he hungers for more. . .

Powerful

As he struggles to control his fierce desire, Matt begins to experience a strange kinship with the wolves who roam his lands. Like them, he longs to be wild and free—but can he take Cat with him, or must he leave her behind for a fate not even he understands. . .

********************

I’m giving “Spirit of the Wolf” 3.5 Stars.

Set in the high desert of central Oregon, where the land is harsh and the people are tough. Two people come together on a spiritual journey. Matt and Cat’s sexual attraction that is primal and raw. Both of them fear what is happening to them, but are unsure what to do about it.

Cat Alward as roamed all her life never setting down roots for very long. With no desire to take over her parents business she has an epiphany one day watching an older Indian work with horses. Starving for a home for her own, she purchases a small farm in remote Oregon. She now trains horses and works with people on their equestrian skills.

Matt Yaye is a cattle rancher with a past. Adopted son to Addie and Santo, he came to the ranch as a young troubled teenage boy. Now the ranch is everything to him. He loves the land and will do anything to protect his remote ranch. After the sudden death of Santo, Matt has felt something in the air, a coming storm. Determined to keep Addie and his ranch safe, Matt looks to the hills for clues.

Since the moment Cat and Matt met there were sparks, no more like explosions. The erotic pull to each other is unexplainable. Now there is proof that wolves have moved into the area, causing problems for the locals. Matt begins to change, but Cat can’t seem to drag herself away from him. Their once purely sexual relationship has taken on a whole new level, becoming even more erotic and dominate.

I have never read a story like “Spirit of the Wolf”. Maybe I was expecting a werewolf story or something paranormal in nature. This story is neither. It centers more on a legend of the local Paiute Indian tribe.

The feelings the book invoked in me were surprising. While I enjoyed the descriptions of the land and the legend I believe I just was not ready for the plot. I was surprised about the twist in the form of Cat and Matt’s sexual relationship. If anyone has a problem with forced seduction, I believe they will have a problem with this book. I tried to view the scenes in the context they were written. An alpha male taking his bitch, though it did take a bit of thought process to get there.

The ending was also a surprise for me. I was heading down a road that Ms. Harper was leading me and then BAM surprise!! I will give her that one. “Spirit of the Wolf” is a beautifully descriptive story. It captures the splendor of central Oregon and the struggles of the people. I do not know the validity of the legend told in the story, but it is an amazing take on an old legend. “Spirit of the Wolf” is a sensual journey into the heart of legends; showing us the power of the past and its effect on the present.

Toni's Review of Wolf Tales 12 By Kate Douglas ***5 Stars***

The Final Chapter

Gifted with exceptional strength and extraordinary sensuality, the shapeshifting Chanku have learned to survive on their own, far away from their one true home in the mountains of Montana. But as the years pass, the packs begin to long for one another, for the incredible passion they enjoy together and for the erotic pleasure they find only with their own kind. . .

It is then they hear Anton's call. He has learned even more about the fascinating past of the Chanku. And the young girl, Lily, has made the most astonishing discovery of all. . .

The time has come for all Chanku to come together as one, to reclaim their primal past and to enter an amazing future that no one ever dreamed. Their epic journey is over, at least for now. . .

********************

Wolf Tales 12 is the conclusion of a wonderful saga. There are 12 full length novels and 9 short stories. It has been an epic journey and I feel sad but elated that the journey is complete.

Kate Douglas has led me on a sensual and beautiful voyage. I devoured the Wolf Tales books right from the get go. I would have to say I was lucky, because I came in the story late. Wolf Tales 11 was just coming out for release. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to wait for each of the 20 stories after the first one was released. I delved right in the lives of the Chanku, a race of shape shifters. Enchanted by their love, loyalty and sexuality; Ms. Douglas took me to a place I have never been. She made me cry and shocked me; and I loved every moment of it.

Wolf Tales 12 takes place five years after #11. Change is in the air and after so many years of peaceful existence, the lives of the pack are going to be transformed into something no one ever expected.

Lily has always been a special child. Born to Anton and Keisha, the packs supreme alphas, Lily has always been a bit more. She is a precocious and brilliant child, an old soul at the age of six. Lily will usher the Chanku into a new existence.

The pack is planning to come together for a special occasion, the birth of a child. A time for celebration is marked with loss and fear of the unknown. Lily is on a quest to help her father and her pack. Her journey will bring everyone together like they have never been. Will the knowledge tear them apart or bring them together, stronger than ever?

This is a hard review to write. Wolf Tales 12 is not like the other novels in the series. You know the end is coming and you are hesitant for it to end. Ms. Douglas took me on a slow ride. She answered questions I didn’t even know I had. I was able to bury myself in the characters I have grown to know and love. The story was very well paced and the action didn’t take away from the plot. In fact, the story was like a cup of cocoa; hot, rich and oh so soothing. It hit the spot. I ended the story craving more but I was very satisfied.

Well done Kate Douglas on a book series that has been an utter joy to read and will have a permanent home in my collection.

Toni's Review of Never Cry Wolf By Cynthia Eden - ***4 Stars***

Lucas Simone is not the kind of guy you mess with. He's big, he's strong, and his eyes hint at a wilder side most women can't handle. Of course, that's because his predatory instincts are no metaphor-he's a genuine Grade-A top-quality werewolf, tough enough to fight his way to dominance over the scariest pack on the West Coast. There's only one chink in his armor. Unlike most alpha dogs, Lucas has a reputation for protecting the weak and innocent.

Sarah King is counting on that protective impulse-it's the only thing standing between her and certain death. There are only two problems: one, she's not quite as innocent as she'd like Lucas to believe. And two, if he doesn't stop stoking Sarah's animal lust, it's only a matter of time before her own wild side gets unleashed...

********************

First off, I would like to clear up some confusion. At least I was confused. “Never Cry Wolf” is not part of the Night Watch series, though it does take place in the same universe. It DOES occur after “Immortal Danger”, but doesn’t seem to be part of an actual series. I know confusing, right? “Never Cry Wolf” can be read alone, but after reading it, I do plan to go out and get “Immortal Danger”. It sounds like a great read.

Lies, deception and death. All three follow Sarah and she needs the help of a strong alpha to save her life. These are three things Lucas will not tolerate in his life.

Sarah King is not what she seems. At first glance she is all innocence and defenselessness. Sarah has many secrets and to save herself she can’t let them be known. Sarah has reasons to be scared. Her ex is after her and he has a hefty price on her head. Every supernatural wants to collect and she is in dire need of a protector. She knows the LA pack alpha has a reputation of protecting the innocent and that is what she is counting on.

Lucas Simone is alpha through and through. He will protect what is his and his pack. With a past born of pain and blood, he has zero tolerance of brutality of the weak and innocent. When Sarah comes into his life, he knows she is trouble at first site. Their relationship begins on a lie and that is something he will not stand for. His pack is in danger and he will do anything to protect them and Sarah is the key to do just that. He just needs to prove to her that she can trust him.

What these two find is not what they expected. They will need to learn to trust each other and that is not easy for either of them. The stakes are high and together they need to work together to survive. Problem is…they are surrounded by deception. Who can they trust? No one is who or what they seem. Through all of the chaos, Sarah and Lucas find something in each other, their missing pieces. Is the passion going to be enough, when one is lying to the other and the other knows it?

“Never Cry Wolf” is action packed from the start. Passion runs high and suspense and mystery is always lurking in the shadows. Ms. Eden has written a well developed story that keeps you guessing the whole way through. I am really enjoying all the different factions of her paranormal universe. She has developed a well laid out world that is consistent and extremely enjoyable. I hope to read more from Ms. Eden in the future.

I do believe this series has gotten better and better. I love Ms. Anderson’s storytelling in this series. Normally you have a book in a series that basically stands alone within the series. In this series "Brides of the Kindred" you get more. You get the story of the main characters, but she weaves the other characters in so well you are just as anxious to hear about them. The characters and storylines are beautifully integrated.

Kat O’Connor is a beautiful woman, though she does not see herself that way. Kat is lovely inside and out. All she sees is an overweight woman. Her past is burdened with the awful pain of her divorced parents. She vows never to allow herself to be put into a relationship that is filled with fighting and pain.

Locks Tight and Stabs Deep are Twin Kindred. Twin brothers of light and dark. Locks is the light brother filled with kindness and understanding. He is lighter in coloring and temperament. Deep, the dark twin is brooding and intense. His hair is blue black just like his soul. While Lock showers Kat in love and peace, Deep bombards her with turmoil and angst.

A past event of the brothers has tainted Deep in a profound way. He will never allow himself to forgive himself and allow his heart to feel again. Kat refuses to release her past and feel for the brothers. Lock is put in the middle of the situation. Loving his brother and Kat so strongly all he can do is hold onto the hope that someday they will all be together.

“Sought” is a well written story that catapults us into the story of these three lovers. Their journey began in prior books of the story and I highly recommend that you read this series in order. Even though I knew they were going to be together. Ms. Anderson did a wonderful job keeping me guessing and made it very hard to put the book down. Action is nonstop, but you don’t feel like you need a break. The sex scenes are hot and up until the end you never really knew how “the act” would be accomplished. I sure didn’t see that one coming. Whew!

Mix together action, suspense, and of course, throw in some hot alien sex and you have a creation of epic proportions. I personally cannot wait for the next and final installment of the Brides of the Kindred.

Toni's Review of Kisri By Moira Rogers ***4 Stars***

His duty...her pleasure.

After three years at war, Ennon bears the burden of seeing the High Lord’s vast armies home. Keeping thousands of fiercely independent lions in line isn’t easy. When his soldiers discover a beautiful, royal female hidden beneath an illusion spell, the lure of her inheritance threatens the order of his camp.

The men of her family protected Kisri, until the war stole them away. Tired of defending herself from greedy suitors, she’s in search of her only remaining male relative. Instead she finds Ennon, her cousin’s most dangerous warrior. Perhaps the only man in the kingdom who has no interest in claiming her birthright. Which makes him unique…and tempting.

Delivering Kisri to his High Lord’s side—while keeping his distance—is Ennon’s one and only duty. Yet Kisri’s untutored advances crack his formidable resistance. And she proves to be a dangerously adept student. Especially when their passion wakes a magic beyond their control…

Warning: This story contains a dangerous shapeshifter warlord, a lioness with a sword, innocent passion, sexual awakenings and a happily-ever-after worthy of any fairy tale.

********************

“Kisri” is the second novella in the series …and the Beast. While novella #1, “Sabine” is a wonderful read, I feel it is not necessary to read it to delve right into novella #2. Moira has done a great job of connecting the two stories, but they can still be read alone. Now that I said that, don’t miss out on reading “Sabine”.

Kisri is the last of the royal females in her family. Well sought after and desired. She wants more though. She wants to be chosen for herself not her position or money.

Ennon is the First Warlord of the Plains. He is a strong man with money and position. He has worked hard for his High Lord and is very devoted to him and his people.

Kisri runs away from being forced into a mating she does not desire. Doing so has thrown her into Ennon’s path. He is now charged to return her to her cousin, Malrion the High Lord of the Plains. Kisri is determined to free herself from her obligations and claim her own life and love. Ennon is a man with a mission. Return his High Lord’s cousin safe and sound. Both discover that they will get more than they bargained for.

I loved and hated “Kisri”. I’ll start with the hate so you don’t get me wrong. I hated that it was short and I loved the characters so much that I wanted more development of them. I went into this story knowing it was a novella. They are supposed to be short and sweet (oh and hot too). When I was done, I just wanted more, much more.

I loved the story even do to its brevity. It had all that was needed to be fulfilling yet make you want more. The interaction between Kisri and Ennon was great. You felt their frustrations and their passion. I found myself smiling and sighing.

“Kisri” is a very enjoyable novella. A wonderful short read. I hope you pick up both “Sabine” and “Kisri”. They complement the storyline very well. Here’s hoping there are more stories to come.

Toni's Review of Embrace the Night by Crystal Jordan ***5 Stars***

They’re the Magickal ones…vampires, werewolves, witches and fae who dwell among humans, united by extraordinary talents and unbridled sexual powers…

Chloe Standish went looking for a one-night stand to erase memories of her cheating ex-and found the hottest sex of her life. A witch and biochemist who’s working on a cure for werewolves, Chloe knows all about magic, yet Merek Kingston evoked a spellbinding lust beyond anything she’d ever felt. But now her ex-boyfriend and research partner is dead, his part of the formula in terrorists’ hands…and the detective in charge is Merek, the same man who’s haunted her dreams ever since their frenzied night together.

Chloe is the one person whose future Merek can’t predict…the only woman who could make him break every rule just to possess her again. Nothing will stop him from protecting her, and an explosive passion too primal, too perfect to forget…

********************

Off the bat, I just want to say…This is NOT a love story that involves werewolves (note wolf on cover). There is a great werewolf in the story and there is love involved, but this is not a werewolf love story. Ok, now that has been said.

What a great story!! I loved the 2.5 main characters (I’ll explain later).

In this story there are Magickal ones…vampires, werewolves, witches and fae. While they are hidden from the Normals, that would be us, they are mainstream.

Chloe Standish is a woman with a heartbreaking past. While she has worked hard to become the strong independent woman she is today, she still has many scars. Merek Kingston is a man that still lives in the past.  Not able to get over his past to move onto the future. When these two meet up for a one night stand, sparks fly literally.

Thrown back together months after their brief affair, they enjoy the passion they share for each other, but fight the future they could have together. They must work side-by-side to stay alive along with Chloe’s godson Alex (that is the 0.5). The three of them are fighting against the odds as the Magickal community seems to be all against them.

There is passion from the first page to the very last. While it is very hot passion, it was all held within context and delightfully done. Ms. Jordan knows how to write great scenes from sex to action all the way to interpersonal ones. She did a great job!

There is no great mystery, no real deep plot or surprise. Just a well told story of 3 people coming together to form a lifelong bond. It’s a great summer read that is not too light or too heavy. If you want to escape, grab this book!!

Toni's Review of Changeling Moon By Dani Harper ***4 Stars***

He roams the moonlit wilderness, his every sense and instinct on high alert. Changeling wolf Connor Macleod and his Pack have never feared anything—until the night human Zoey Tyler barely escapes a rogue werewolf's vicious attack.

As the full moon approaches, Zoey has no idea of the changes that are coming, and only Connor can show her what she is, and help her master the wildness inside. With her initiation into the Pack just days away and a terrifying predator on the loose, the tentative bonds of trust and tenderness are their only weapons against a force red in tooth, claw. . .and ultimate evil.

********************

“Changeling Moon” is the first book in a new shapeshifter series. The second book is scheduled to come out June 28th, “Changeling Dream”.

Zoey Tyler is the new editor for the town’s newspaper. She is a city girl who needed to get away for the big city and away from herself. She is fact driven and strong willed. She is enjoying the quiet life and the scenery.  Zoey is not your typical woman. She has her own secrets and fears, and she wants them to stay hidden.

Connor Macleod is the area veterinarian. He has an amazing gift that allows him to communicate with his patients. His life is his practice and his extended family – his pack. Conner is a changeling and now his and the packs way of life is in jeopardy. He will do all he can to protect it.

One cold icy night and everyone’s life has changed forever. Now Zoey has been transformed into something she knows nothing about and Conner is drawn to Zoey to do more than just help her with her change. Problem is there is a force dead set on destroying them and the whole town.

“Changeling Moon” is a nice read. While we see the couple is destined to be together and we know who the villain is, we still have surprises along the way. Ms. Harper has done a wonderful job helping us get to know the characters and her new take on the shapeshifter genre. I am looking forward to the next installment and was very pleasantly surprised that it is coming out within month of this books release. The Macleod’s we have met so far are amazing characters and I can’t wait to meet more of them.

I recommend “Changeling Moon” for an effortless summer read. The story has all one needs for a good read…hot love scenes, hot men, and a touch of humor.

Toni's Review of Changeling Dream By Dani Harper - ***4 Stars***

In times of stress Jillian Descharme has always found calm in her dream of a great white wolf with haunting blue eyes. But she is startled when the visions return and this time seem so real. Late at night he comes to her, speaks to her, touches her. It’s almost as if he’s alive…

Thirty years ago James Macleod lost his wife and unborn child to a killer bent on destroying the Changelings. Though he longed for death, his animal instinct fought for survival and James has been a wolf ever since. Yet now a woman has reawakened the man in him, taming wild instincts but arousing still wilder needs. With his ancient enemy hunting the legendary white wolf, James must fight for new life, new hope, new love.

********************

“Changeling Dream” is book two, following fast on the heels of book one “Changeling Moon” (see prior review). “Changeling Dream” is set in northern Alberta, Canada, in Dunvegan. The area has been home of a Changeling pack for many decades. This series centers on the Macleod’s.

Jillian Descharme has a painful past. With a little help from a savior, she is able to move past the pain and move on. She is now a veterinarian, and truly enjoys her job. With a new life and changes ahead of her, this strong woman takes on many new and exciting challenges. Though there is one she can do without, one that takes on the form of a Viking warrior.

James Macleod knows sorrow and pain. For thirty years, he has run fast and far from it. Back then he lost everything he loved, his wife and unborn child. He may know sorrow and pain, but in all those years he has never dealt with it. James is reluctant to heal, but it is time. His wolf is ready to move on and with a lot of help, he will.

Jillian’s past comes back in a surprising way. Years before, after an attack, she is saved by a beautiful white wolf. Well over a decade later, the wolf is back…but how? James is a Changeling, but for the last thirty years he has been living his life completely as a wolf. He is drawn back home and to a blonde beauty. He just can’t seem to understand why.

“Changeling Dreams” is a book of healing. The injury is very old and it takes most of the book to fix it. The story is slow and steady, but in a good way. The healing is believable. There is no wonder drug or epic mind shattering revelation and WHAM James is all better. The journey you take with James is convincing and subtle. There are no quick fixes and that is what makes the journey so heartwarming.

This storyline is what makes “Changeling Dream” different from your normal fast paced, sex filled paranormal read. Ms. Harper is dealing with feelings and emotions on a different level. She wrote a believable plot and was consistent and meticulous in regards to James’ healing. I enjoyed that I was able to tag along with him. Yes, I wanted the action and the sex, but after reading the whole story I understood that it was not what James and Jillian needed. In the end, I applaud Ms. Harper for staying true to James. I will be waiting patiently for the next installment, “Changeling Dawn” coming out January 2012.

Toni's Review of Devilishly Hot by Kathy Love ***3.5 Stars***

And you thought your job was hell. . .

Annie Lou Riddle had a plan: Move to New York City. Break into the fashion industry. Work her way to the top. Nowhere in that scenario did she expect to accidentally sell her soul in exchange for a job at Hot! Magazine. Oops.

Demons, it seems, aren't big on letting mortals off the hook. Now Annie is stuck working as assistant/personal slave to Finola White—diva extraordinaire, and glamorous she-devil. Whatever Finola wants, she gets, and she wants Annie to match her up with Nick Rossi, the gorgeous detective investigating shady doings at Hot!

Frankly, Annie sees the appeal. Nick is effortlessly sexy, rugged, charming—and the one man Annie should definitely not be flirting with, or kissing, or. . . Oops. But some loves are too devilishly hot to resist. . .

*******************

Intrigue, a touch of mystery and a whole lotta demons!

Annie is a southern girl transplanted into the dog-eat-dog world of New York City. She came to New York to make it in the fashion industry. Now is her chance. Too bad she didn’t know going to work for Fiona White was a win/lose proposition. Win the best job at the hottest magazine in the world. Lose your soul!

Nick has a problem. He is trying to prove to his superiors that he is not crazy. Yes, he lost control and said that a murder suspect looked like a monster awhile back, but he was just a bit overworked, or so he thinks.  Little did he know that he was not crazy and now he is surrounded by real monsters, demons. He just walked into the biggest nest in New York, Hot! Magazine.

Annie and Nick are attracted at first collision. The problem is they can’t seal the deal. Annie’s boss, Finola wants Nick too, and she always gets what she wants, ALWAYS!

This is a light romantic read. The bedroom scenes are spicy but not scorching. The villains are despicable yet not scary. The romance between Annie and Nick is fun. Their journey to each other is riddled with demonic bosses, uninterested boyfriends and well the possibility of going to hell. It is a rather easy read. It did have some problems for me though.

You would think by the look of the cover that this is a light comedic read. I guess in a way it is, but then it isn’t. This book is an enigma. The cover is very cutesy. The plot had the potential to be a cute fun story, but really wasn’t. I think it tried to be a bit of a dark comedy with over the top characters, but it was quirky. It just didn’t feel right to me, maybe because I did start the book with a preconceived notion from the cover. I don’t think poor Annie looked that chipper, even once in the story. Not to mention Nick was a bit too rough and blue collar to wear a suit. He was a man’s man. YUM! My biggest concern and problem is this is a light romance and Annie and Nick had unprotected sex, every time. I was a bit shocked and disappointed, especially in today’s age. I’ve read erotic romances with safer sex. Okay, I’m stepping off my soapbox now.

Devilishly Hot is a nice change from the standard paranormal romances out there. It is a novel filled with hellish plots, twisty turns, and a dog. This is an original story and pleasantly entertaining. There were a few nice surprises and the characters were rather unique. If you enjoy Ms. Love’s other novels you will likely enjoy Devilishly Hot too.

Toni's Review of Claimed by Rebecca Zanetti ***4.5 Stars***

A Daring Rescue

Emma Paulsen is a geneticist driven by science. But she's also a psychic, so when a dark, good-hearted vampire frees her from the clutches of the evil Kurjans, she realizes he must be the man who's been haunting her dreams. But with a virus threatening vampires' mates, Emma may discover a whole new meaning of "lovesick". . .

A Deadly Decision

As King of the Realm, Dage Kayrs has learned to practice diplomacy. Still, it's taken three hundred years to find his mate, so he'll stop at nothing to protect her—even if it means turning his back on his own kind. . .

*****************

Amazing new take on vampires, Ms. Zanetti’s vampires are innovative and exciting!

Emma Paulsen has been on the run for weeks. She is trying to escape the Kurjans and now also the Vampires. During her work as a geneticist she discovers that she isn’t researching a cure for cancer but something more sinister. Grabbing her research and running is her only option. A race of evil beings called Kurjans are hunting her down for more than her research though. While on the run she discovers another race of beings, the Vampires, enemies of the Kurjans. Unknown to her, one particular vampire wants more than the stolen research; he wants her as his mate.

For several centuries Dage Kayrs has dreamed of his mate; her face, her body, her warm embrace. Now he knows she is out there and he is determined to find her. Not only to save her from the Kurjans, but to save himself. As King of the Realm he needs her to complete him. He knows she will be a hard woman to claim, but he is determined to have her anyways.

This is the second book in Ms. Zanetti’s exciting new series. Her universe of vampires is refreshing and exhilarating. These are probably the most human vampires I have read about. While they have elements of some of my favorite vampires, they are in a class all their own. Both the Vampires and the Kurjans can only be male, so they have to look outside their race to find mates, but only certain females will work. They need females with physic abilities. The Kurjans have developed a virus that attacks the mates of the Vampires. Emma is in a race to find a cure to save both her sister and her unborn nephew.

This series has a strong undercurrent of adventure, almost overshadowing the romance. The medical lingo and background does not take away from the general story, but enhances it. Ms. Zanetti has developed an engaging and exciting new world.

The males in this series are a hard group to love. They are extremely alpha and exasperating at times. Their raw masculinity and power draw you in and holds on tight. Luckily the heroines are just as strong and know how to bring these big brutes to their knees.

If you are looking for a new adventure in the paranormal world, look no further then this new series. Fated and Claimed both have heart pounding action and sizzling chemistry, what more can you ask for!

Toni's Review of Succubus Revealed by Richelle Mead ***5 Stars***

In Georgina Kincaid, succubus and she-demon, #1 New York Times bestselling author Richelle Mead has created one of her most enticing characters. But with a shot at love, and maybe even redemption, is the ultimate seductress finally going soft? Like hell she is. . .

Georgina Kincaid has had an eternity to figure out the opposite sex, but sometimes they still surprise her. Take Seth Mortensen. The man has risked his soul to become Georgina's boyfriend. Still, with Lucifer for a boss, Georgina can't just hang up her killer heels and settle down to domestic bliss. In fact, she's being forced to transfer operations. . .to Las Vegas.

The City of Sin is a dream gig for a succubus, but Georgina's allies are suspicious. Why are the powers-that-be so eager to get her away from Seattle—and from Seth? Georgina is one of Hell's most valuable assets, but if there's any way out of the succubus business she plans to take it—no matter how much roadkill she leaves behind. She just hopes the casualties won't include the one man she's risking everything for. . .

******************

This is a fantastic conclusion to an exceptional series.

With every novel in Georgina’s series I have felt a connection. She is such a lonely soul you can’t help feel for her. Never wanting the hand that was dealt to her, she chose her life for love. Ms. Mead has written an amazing heroine and I will miss her immensely.

Georgina has been a succubus for way too long. She is in love with a man that she can’t live without, but is destined to slowly drain away his soul. Seth has come to terms with his relationship with Georgina and understands her duties as a succubus. He would do anything to be a part of her life no matter the consequences.

I highly recommend that you read the whole series in order. Now that the story is concluded all the lovely little morsels of information and mystery have come to light under Ms. Mead’s masterful storytelling. I remember reading Succubus Dreams ready to never read about Seth again. I had never been so enraged while reading a story. The emotions that this series has pulled from me have left me drained and elated at the same time.

My normal reviews go into the details of the characters and plot. I’m going to forgo that this time, because you really do need to start from the beginning. After reading this final book I’m content and satiated. Ms. Mead closed the series brilliantly. While I can see an inkling of a spin off, I can rest assured knowing that this journey is concluded. I do hope she will bless us with the continued stories of several of the characters. The supporting cast is exceptional and I loved every one of them.

Run don’t walk to get this whole series!! It is sexy, funny, infuriating and a pure joy to become immersed in.  Ms. Mead does not disappoint her readers in her telling of Georgina’s adventures. This series will have a permanent home on my bookshelves and will be a well read series for years to come.

Toni's Review of Bound by Night by Amanda Ashley ***3.5 Stars***

A Vampire's Kiss Is Forever. . .

Once featured in a horror movie, the crumbling Wolfram estate is said to be haunted by ghosts, witches, and worse. But Elena doesn't believe a word of it—until she spends the night and wakes up in the arms of a compelling stranger. . .

Tall, dark, and disturbingly handsome, Drake is the most beautiful man Elena has ever seen. For centuries, he has lived alone, and Elena is the first woman to enter his lair—and survive. And Drake is the first man to touch her heart and soul. By the time she discovers who he really is—and what he craves—it's too late. Blood lust has turned to love, and Elena is deeply under Drake's spell. But forever comes at a price for each of them. . .

*******************

Bound by Night is a sensual tale of old school vampire lore, filled with burning passion and the hurdles lovers will endure to keep it.

Elena Knightsbridge is a young woman who has had a hard life. After the death of her parents she is relocated to Romania to her Aunt’s home. Years later and after more loss in her life, she is isolated and trapped with her Uncle who has just proposed marriage to her. With nothing to her name, she does the only thing she can do to escape – RUN!

Drake Sherrad has lived for over 500 years. Times have changed and he is starting to question his existence.  On the night he finds Elena in his home, he is intrigued with her. He has something new and challenging to discover not to mention tasty too.

Panicked and scared, Elena runs out into the night to the only place she can go for the time being, the abandoned Wolfram Castle. The castle is far from abandoned. Drake returns home after a night of hunting and finds the alluring creature in his lair. Their attraction is immediate, but is cultivated slowly over time. Their love is forbidden and riddled with challenges. As we venture into the secret world of vampires we are taken on a journey of unbridled passion, deception and change.

The story had a familiarity to it, but yet felt unique. Drake had abilities that fell into the mysterious category and these vampires really did have an old world feeling about them. Elena is a modern woman, but she grew up old fashioned due to the remoteness of rural Romania. Bound by Night is very sensual. The sex is obvious but not described in details. The acts of seduction and kissing were more in depth. Your imagination has the ability to soar and blossom under Ms. Ashley’s storytelling.

Her new vampire universe has some incredible twists and turns in it, along with the warm comfort of the familiar. The potential of the series is fascinating and will be a pleasure to read. I’m ready to dive right into the second book in the series – Bound by Blood – available now.

4 Stars for Immortal Rider by Larissa Ione

I've followed Larissa's books through the Demonica series and now the Lords of Deliverance series. I really like how the two worlds intertwine and I get to see updates on some of my favorite characters from the Demonica series.

I really enjoyed this book, just as much as I have all of Larissa's books. In this story we get Limos one of the four Horsemen and Arik. Basically at the end of book 1 we all saw Arik kiss Limos and basically get sucked into Hell. Kinda of scary and nice little cliffhanger.

Limos is actually betrothed to Satan and judging from how fast Arik got sucked into Hell, he's also pretty jealous, especially when Limos had kissed him back. Everyone's looking for a way to free Arik from Hell, which is a pretty daunting task because exactly where is he?

During this time Arik is literally stuck in Hell for I believe it was like 4-6 weeks? A long time to be sure. During this time he's tortured repeatedly and all they want him to do is to say Limos name while in agony, but if you remember from the ending on the last book Limos pleads with him not to say her name. While he's being tortured they keep stopping to let a Seminus demon heal him (and the answer is no, none of the Seminus demons we know!). He eventually gets out of the Hell and at the same time Limos finds him. She takes him back to her place and he thinks he's dreaming, which he is not. There's a lot of side stuff going on in the plot with secondary characters and lots of drama unfolding from their brother Respeth aka Pestilence now, who's literally reeking terror on the human world and turning certain spots into literally hell on earth.

I don't want to say too much but I did enjoy the story. Limos does have a lot of Deep, Dark secrets she's kept from her brothers and from Arik but in the end she faces the music and confesses them..its not perfect but if I had kept a secret for THOUSANDS of years, well I wouldn't be rushing forward to "admit" my deeds either.

Some may hate it for that but I intend to keep stalking Larissa's delicious books as they keep me satisfied until the end and craving the next release. I can't wait for some of the other stories to come into play like the rest of the brothers, a certain sexy angel and a harvester.  I really hope they have a story because yeah, totally intrigued here.

If you're looking for a uniquely fresh read I suggest you give this book a try and if you haven't already pick up her Demonica series FIRST, then move on to the Lords of Deliverance books.

4 Stars from Paranormal Addicts

4 Stars for Shadow Heir by Richelle Mead

I really love Richelle’s books. I’ve read all of her series and my favorite part is that I know when I buy Richelle’s books that every single book I buy no matter if it’s her VA series or Succubus series or Dark Swan series, I KNOW I’m going to get an excellent story that’s pretty flawless as far as writing goes. I really enjoyed Shadow Heir and finished it about 3 weeks ago but I honestly didn’t know how to write my review. If this book was just part of a series and there would be another book after this one explaining some things I would have been super happy. But, this is the last book and while things worked out, they were a bit differently than I thought they would be and the ending left a bittersweet taste in my mouth.

As we all know, Eugenie was pregnant in the last book and turned to King Dorian of the Oak Lands at the end of book 3. She was asking for protection from Kiyo her ex-boyfriend and whom Eugenie believes is the father after an incident with taking antibiotics and then being intimate with him. He’s after Eugenie because some of the Gentry believe in the prophecy of the Storm King’s legacy and about the first born grandson from him will supposedly destroy the human realm. Some of the Gentry don’t care and either A. Support the prophecy or B. Support Queen Eugenie or King Dorian.

At the beginning of Shadow Heir we have Eugenie, her sister Jasmine, and Pagiel who is the son of Ysabel (you’d remember her originally as being one of Dorian’s conquests/lovers). Pagiel however is not as rude as his mother and fully supports Eugenie and is around the same age as Jasmine. They are all headed from one of the Gentry gates to go to the Doctors in Ohio to check on the twin babies Eugenie is carrying. Dorian doesn’t like her going out and endangering herself but Eugenie is pretty insistent on not relying on Gentry magic and points out that the infant death rates are pretty high. She’s going to the doctor in Ohio because of all the other Gentry’s trying to kill her, including her ex Kiyo and his former girlfriend Queen Maiwenn, who fully believes the prophecy will come to pass so they are trying to get Eugenie so they can kill the baby boy inside her ( a boy and a girl fraternal twins).

Eugenie eventually decides to go into hiding in the human world and the only one who knows where she is hiding is her stepfather/shaman who helps her go into hiding with a shaman friend of his. Jasmine and Dorian are pretty upset with her for leaving, while pregnant and hiding out where they don’t know if she’s safe or not. Eugenie goes anyways and discovers the Shaman and her husband are pretty great folks who treat her like family.

There are some other major plot details that go along in this story line but I don’t want to ruin it for you. I did enjoy the book, but I would have enjoyed it even more if I knew there was another book or even another short story explaining some details. I actually cried at the end of this one and I believe that is a first for me on crying over Richelle’s books. I did enjoy it but I’m a bit sad about everything.

Richelle, please take pity on your devoted fans and give us some updates or a side story or even a side series that ties back into this one. Please don’t leave us hanging with that ending. We want to know more about two special someone’s, the stuff with Dorian, how Eugenie copes etc. You’ll get it if you read it folks but I had to write it in code so I wouldn’t spoil it for anyone.

5 Stars for Night Reigns by Dianne Duvall

Night Reigns by Dianne Duvall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you haven’t read Dianne Duvall yet, you need to add her to your list of Paranormal authors. Darkness Dawns is the 1st book in this series and Night Reigns is the 2nd book in the Immortal Guardian series.

In Darkness Dawn we got to meet Amiriska and Marcus who were secondary characters in that story. In Night Reigns we get more details about them and some glimpses back into book one as well.

Marcus is over eight hundred years old and is an Immortal Guaridan aka Protector of humanity. Amiriska aka Ami is believed to be human but at the end of book one we discover that Seth, David and Darnell have discovered exactly what she is and are shocked by it. It definitely leaves you on a cliff hanger wondering what has happened and what is Ami if she’s not human?

As you know from the first book, Seth is basically the leader of the Immortal Guardian group and has powers beyond imagining. He and David are the ones who discovered Ami locked in some horrific testing facility and rescued her and slowly brought her out of her shell. Seth informs Marcus that it’s time for him to take a Second. A Second is basically the Guardians backups, they help them out when they can, provide transportation and basically are their Guardians help when they need it. Seth informs Marcus that Ami is his new Second even though Marcus is extremely upset about that choice and pretty insistent that he doesn’t need a Second. Ami’s pretty surprised herself but she basically rolls through with the verdict.

Marcus and Ami have some serious chemistry going on between them and Marcus starts to completely avoid her, hoping that if he’s stand offish enough she’ll basically abandon her post and want to leave. In the end Ami finds Marcus in a tight spot and they are surrounded by more than thirty rogue vampires. Marcus wants her to run but Ami refuses. The most amazing part about all this is that they actually win the fight and Marcus realizes just how useful and amazing Ami is in a fight, probably enough to take him down.

There’s a lot of tension in the book but it’s definitely a sit down and devour in one night kind of read so try not to start it too late unless you want to miss work the next day.

And if you’re wondering, yes we do finally discover what Ami is. It’s such a wild twist that I could never have imagined it myself and I was taken by surprise (in a good way of course!). This is an intriguing new paranormal world for me and I will continue to follow Dianne’s Immortal Guardian Series. I can’t wait to see some of the other characters find love.

4 Stars for Zoe Archer's Devil's Kiss

Devil's Kiss by Zoe Archer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a unique historical paranormal book and a new to me author.

In Devil’s Kiss we meet James Sherbourne and Zora Grey, who are from England in the year 1762. James who is known as Whit to his friends, is the Earl of Whitney and is what the gypsies like to dub as gorgios. Zora Grey is a Romani girl from the Gypsy encampment.

Whit and his four friends heard news of the Gypsies in the neighborhood and decided to go pay liberal amounts of money to be entertained by the Gypsies that night with music, dancing, fortune-telling, wine and cards. White and his four friends are also known as the Hellraisers and are frequently looking for more trouble to get into. Whit is thirty-one but only gains excitement by gambling excessively and feeding his addiction.

Zora plays cards extremely well and also tells fortunes. She travels with her people but she’s pretty doubtful about her heritage and superstitions. She does not believe in those things, but she hasn’t had any real proof for her to think they are real either. Her family does however believe in the superstitions that they pass on to her.

Zora and Whit gamble and Whit is intrigued with Zora and curious because she keeps winning at cards. Being an expert card player himself he’s convinced she’s cheating but he can’t prove it. He’s not angry about losing money but he’s extremely curious about how she’s pulling it off. Whit and his friends discover from a Gypsy man that there is a Roman ruin close by to where one of the Hellraisers lives. He’s never heard of the place even though its been there for hundreds of years. They want to go explore the ruin even when the man warns them that it’s a place of Dark Magic and the haunt of Wafodu guero aka the Devil. None of the men seem concerned about this and boast that their names are the Hellraisers after all. They decide to leave and go explore, even though Whit is intrigued by Zora and wants to get to know her better.

After the men leave Zora is extremely uneasy and paces for hours after the men have left. She decides to use her tarot cards to tell her fortune, she doesn’t really believe but laying out the spread of cards soothes her. After she spreads the ten card spread for the first time she sees one of the cards about Evil coming. She’s a bit freaked out and decides to lay out the cards again. The 2nd time she lays out the cards they are the same exact cards. She convinces herself that she’s imagining things and it’s just a coincidence and decides to lay them out for a third time. The 3rd and final time she realizes they are the same cards again and she reads them all this time and realizes that the cards are telling her that “A great Evil is coming, unleashed by the five.” Zora is not really believing, but after seeing the cards 3 times, and watching the 5 men leave the encampment, she’s terrified. She runs to her family to tell them and they are also freaked out because they know Zora isn’t a believer in fortune telling and if she says the cards say that, then it must be true. Everyone is too terrified to do anything at all and Zora decides to take matters into her own hand and try to go after the men to keep them from unleashing this evil upon the world.

What Zora doesn’t realize is that she’s too late and the Hellraisers have already discovered the ruin and unleashed the Devil. It seems they don’t really believe he’s the devil and he introduces himself as Mr. Holiday. He professes gratitude to the 5 men and offers them each their greatest desire, whether its luck at the gambling table or to get in with political figures etc. All he asks them is if they’ll give him something, doesn’t have to be expensive, it can be as insignificant as a button. They all agree readily but they don’t realize that they’ve given up something infinitely more precious than just a button.

There are a lot of trials that Zora and Whit must face and luckily Zora helps pull Whit out of some of it and he realizes the grave error that he’s made. He does lose his friends in the process as they are blinded by their lusts and desires and they think Zora is a bad influence on him and they end up on a long journey together, running from it all and trying to find answers. If you need an enticing new historical paranormal read I suggest you give Zoe a try.
